Lawn Turf Installation That Ends the Weekend Mow for Good

The whole lawn, front or back, replaced with a surface that holds the same shade of green in every month of the year.
We take out the old lawn, correct the grade, build the drainage base and lay a multi-tone turf that reads as grass from the street.

Artificial Turf Lawn Installation to Replace Natural Grass

A lawn turf installation is the conversion of a whole front or back lawn, or both, from living grass to a permanent synthetic surface. It is the largest of the residential projects we do and the one that changes the look of a property most. The existing lawn is stripped out, the grade is corrected so water runs where it should, a compacted drainage base is built across the full area, and a landscape-grade turf is laid over it. That turf is not a single colour. Good lawn product blends several blade tones with a brown thatch layer underneath so it reads as grass rather than as carpet, and on a large open area the seam layout and the direction the pile runs matter as much as the product does.

Turf Restoration and Design has been converting lawns since 2020, on the back of more than twenty years of hands-on turf experience, and we do the whole job with our own crew and our own equipment. On a large area we plan where seams will fall and which way the pile runs before anything is cut, because that is what separates a lawn that passes for grass from one that does not. We correct the grade rather than laying over whatever shape the yard is currently in, we fit tight to every bed and border rather than butting turf up to a rough edge, and we use turf that is 100 percent recyclable and made locally.

Our Services

A full lawn conversion is one of five residential systems we build, and it is often done alongside one of the others, since the areas that killed the lawn are usually the ones that need a different specification anyway.

Artificial Grass for Backyard Lawns with Drainage Problems

Some backyards stay soggy for days after rain, with puddles, muddy low spots, and grass that rots or thins out. These issues often come from compacted soil or poor grading rather than the grass itself. Artificial grass for backyard lawns with drainage problems solves this by pairing permeable turf with a regraded, well-draining base. Water passes through quickly, so the yard is usable again soon after a storm.

Turf Restoration and Design checks how water moves across your yard before recommending an approach. We are licensed, insured, and a member of the National Synthetic Turf Council, and every lawn includes a 15 year material warranty and a 5 year labor warranty.

Benefits of Our Service

BILL

The Annual Lawn Bill Stops

Mowing contracts, fertilizer programs, weed control, aeration, overseeding and seasonal cleanups all come off the budget permanently rather than recurring every single year.

One Surface Instead of a Patchwork

Sun, shade and foot traffic normally turn a single lawn into three different lawns, and a converted surface holds one appearance across all of it.

The Edges Stay Sharp Permanently

Borders against beds, walkways and driveways are cut once and stay exactly where they were put, with no creeping grass and no trimmer scalping.

It Looks the Same Whether You Are Home or Not

LoreTravel for a month, rent the property out or leave a second home empty through the season, and the yard is in the same condition when you get back.

Low-Maintenance Lawn Alternative for Busy Homeowners

A natural lawn asks for time and money every week of the growing season. Mowing, edging, fertilizing, weed control, and watering all add up, along with the cost of equipment or a lawn service. Artificial turf is a low-maintenance lawn alternative that removes most of those tasks. Occasional brushing and a quick rinse are usually enough to keep it looking fresh. It also cuts water use, which helps during dry spells and watering restrictions.

Turf Restoration and Design uses turf that is made locally and is 100 percent recyclable, so your new lawn saves effort without adding waste. Homeowners planning a larger project can also explore our residential turf service.

Synthetic Lawn Installation Process from Grass Removal to Final Grooming

A quality synthetic lawn installation follows a careful sequence, and skipping any step can cause problems later. The process starts with removing existing grass and roots, then grading the soil for proper slope. Next comes a compacted stone base, a weed barrier, and the turf itself, laid with seams joined tightly and hidden from view. Infill is then added and the fibers are brushed upright for a natural finish.

Turf Restoration and Design handles every step with our own team and our own equipment, and we never pass the work to a subcontractor. Our owner's more than twenty years with turf shows in seams that still sit flat years after installation.

Our Work Process

01

We Measure the Lawn and Plan the Seam Layout

On a large open area, where the seams fall and which direction the pile runs decides whether it looks like grass. We plan that against the roll width and the main sight lines before anything is ordered.

02

We Strip the Old Lawn and Correct the Grade

The existing surface comes out, low spots are brought up, the fall is set away from the house, and the aggregate base is laid and compacted across the whole area.

03

We Fit Every Border and Groom the Pile

The turf is cut tight to beds, trees, walkways and hardscape, anchored down, infilled and power broomed so the blades stand up and the thatch layer settles in properly.

What People Are Saying About Us

Testimonials

    Karen M.

    Milton, GA

We had a strip of yard that never grew anything but weeds and mud. They regraded the whole thing before they laid anything down, which nobody else who quoted us even brought up. Two summers in and it still looks like the day they finished.

      Derrick H.

      Johns Creek, GA

Two labs and a yard that turned into a swamp every time it rained. They walked us through the drainage and the pet infill instead of just handing over a number, and there is no smell at all. The dogs took about ten seconds to decide they approved.

        Tom B.

        Roswell, GA

I asked for a putting green and they came back with a layout that used a slope I thought was a problem. Three real breaks on it now and it rolls true. They were on site every day and cleaned up behind themselves every evening.

          Angela R.

          Peachtree Corners, GA

Our courtyard was costing us a fortune in irrigation and yearly sod repair. They phased the work so tenants were never fully blocked off, and they hit the dates they gave us. That maintenance line has basically disappeared from the budget.

Artificial Grass Lawn Options for a Natural Look

Modern turf looks far more realistic than the bright, plastic grass many people remember. An artificial grass lawn can include mixed shades of green, a light brown thatch layer, and blade shapes that reflect light like real grass. Pile height also matters, since shorter turf looks manicured while taller turf feels lush and soft. The best choice depends on your home's style, sun exposure, and how the lawn will be used.

Turf Restoration and Design brings samples and helps you compare options side by side, so you can pick a lawn that looks right for your property. Families with dogs may prefer the features covered on our pet-friendly turf page.

          Frequently Asked Questions

Not if the product and the layout are right, and both matter. A convincing lawn turf blends several blade colours with a brown thatch layer underneath, so it has the variation real grass has instead of reading as one flat green. The other half is installation. On a large open lawn the pile has to run the same direction throughout and the seams have to be planned against the main sight lines, because a seam running across the view from the front door is the thing people notice. Ask any installer to show you a finished lawn of a similar size rather than a product sample.
Ask for four numbers rather than a brand name. Face weight tells you how much yarn is in the product, and more yarn generally means better density and recovery. Pile height affects how it looks and how it lies underfoot. The blade shape and the number of colours determine how natural it reads. And the manufacturer warranty, separate from the installer warranty, tells you what the maker will actually stand behind. Two quotes that look similar on price often differ substantially on face weight, and that is where the difference shows up in year six.
It gets decommissioned properly rather than buried and forgotten. We cap the lines and remove or lower the heads before the base goes in, so nothing sits under the turf waiting to be punctured or to leak into your new base. If you are only converting part of the yard we reconfigure the zones so the remaining planting still gets watered, and we leave the system documented for you. Keeping a couple of hose bibs accessible is worth doing, since you will still want to rinse the turf occasionally.
Furniture is fine, and heavy pieces will not leave permanent dents on a properly compacted base. Fire is the exception. Synthetic fibers melt, so a fire pit or grill needs a hard surface underneath it and a sensible clearance, which we can build into the layout. There is one more heat source worth knowing about: low-emissivity window glass can concentrate reflected sunlight strongly enough to distort turf fibers in a narrow band. It is uncommon, it is fixable with a screen or an awning, and we will flag it during the site visit if your window orientation makes it a risk.
It comes up and it gets recycled. The turf we install is 100 percent recyclable, and lifting a bonded lawn is a considerably smaller job than installing one because the base underneath stays in place and can be reused. In practice most lawns are re-turfed on the same base rather than dug out entirely, which makes the second installation cheaper than the first. If you sell the property before then, the warranty documentation is worth passing on to the new owner.

How Much Are You Spending on a Lawn You Barely Use?

            Contact Us

Add up the mowing, the treatments, the cleanups and the water, then look at how many hours a week anyone actually spends on the grass. For a lot of households the arithmetic answers itself.

            Area We Serve

Full lawn conversions are the largest jobs on our schedule, involving real excavation and material haulage, and that is exactly why we keep the service radius short. Long travel distances are what push companies into subcontracting, and we would rather turn work down than hand a lawn to a crew we have not trained.
